Vinny Anthony II didn't run the 40-yard dash that many were expecting him to run. His vertical was also middle of the pack among his wide receiver peers. That led to some disappointment over his NFL Combine results and a desire to look ahead to his Wisconsin Pro Day. However, there are two combined drills that Anthony excelled in, and they may matter more than people think.
Two of the wide receiver-specific drills that help showcase a receiver's ability to make cuts quickly, efficiently, and have fluid hips are the 3-cone drill and the short shuttle. Vinny Anthony was first in one and second in the other. He was absolutely flying through these ones and scouts will notice.

The Former Badger ran a 6.86 3-cone drill, which was the second fastest time behind Germie Bernard. Anthony was one of three players who ran it in under seven seconds. He may not have shown his lateral speed, but his cutting speed is better than almost all his peers.
He then went and won the short shuttle, putting up a time of 4.07, which was .21 faster than the next closest player, Washington receiver Denzel Boston, who's expected to be a first-round pick.
Anthony is projected to be a late-round pick already, but he did two things that may have elevated his stock at the NFL Combine. He first spoke about his versatility and his ability to be a punt and kick returner. That's huge for NFL teams that want to take a flyer on him in the draft. The other is these agility drills, he smoked the competition, which shows to NFL scouts his ability to be an effective and quick burst NFL wide receiver.
