It has been another frustrating night watching Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Braedyn Locke try and make something happen with his right arm. While he has been able to deliver some impressive throws vs. Iowa, another back-breaking mistake is haunting this team.
In the first quarter, with Wisconsin having great field position thanks to a missed Iowa field goal, the Badgers were looking to take advantage. However, Locke tossed yet another terrible interception, his seventh of the season.
Locke has now thrown an interception in six straight games. It has people wondering, is there a better option behind him? People are also wondering who the backup signal-caller is, and that'd be freshman Mabrey Mettauer.
Mabrey Mettauer is the backup quarterback for the Wisconsin Badgers
Mettauer is a true freshman from The Woodlands, Texas, who signed with Wisconsin as a member of the 2024 class. Coming out of high school, he was a 4-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite and the No. 31 QB in the country.
He picked up 24 offers throughout his recruitment, picking Wisconsin over Arizona State, Arkansas, Florida, Colorado, LSU, Miami, North Carolina and many others. As you can see, he was a coveted prospect and Badgers fans are excited about his future. However, do we expect Luke Fickell to toss him into action right now?
It's unlikely. Against Iowa, it's a tough road environment and a big-time rivalry game. Unless Locke goes down with an injury, there's no reason for Mettauer to see the field. The same can be said for the next matchup against Oregon.
That's right, Wisconsin will be on a bye next week, but the No. 1 Ducks will be headed to Madison on Nov. 16. Do we think Fickell is going to be desperate enough to start the true frosh against one of the most fierce defenses in the country? Nope. We're going to have to wait for Mettauer to get his shot - but fans sure hope Locke can clean up his poor play.
