The Wisconsin Badgers are in full blown offseason mode but that doesn't mean there aren't important and even significant updates. It's easy to get distracted with other professional sports right now like the Milwaukee Brewers are looking every bit the part. Green Bay Packers have training camp shortly, the World Cup is a whole lot of fun. So, let's break down a few things that popped up that you may have missed.

The first one is a bit of a doozy.

Significant update on the Athletic Director search

All has been quiet on the trail of the next Wisconsin athletic director. The search team was formed like the Avengers, but then they disappeared into the tower, and nothing has been leaked. Until yesterday, when news circulated from Arizona sources that Desiree Reed-Francois is a finalist for the Wisconsin job. While a corresponding article on 24/7 Sports Wildcat Authority said that Reed-Francois, as a finalist for Wisconsin, was "confirmed by multiple top-level sources and each one described her positioning as within a final group of anywhere from three to five candidates."

That's significant news as it does appear the search is in a great spot and there's going to be a decision shortly. It may not end up being Reed-Francois. In fact, the same article said they don't think she ends up with the position, "It would be a surprise if Reed-Francois got the Wisconsin job due in large part to her current relationships within the department."

Stick around, more will be breaking in the next few days to week on this one.

New 2028 recruit and an update from Kelly Sheffield

Wisconsin added a 2028 recruit from Utah, a 6'3 outside hitter named Taylor Freeland. She's one of the top players at her position in her class. Sheffield says he anticipates this being the only player taken in the 2028 recruiting class. He left a caveat that there could be more, but most likely, they are already done. He also added a versatile local player to round out the 2026 team in Alyssa Konrad. More on her here.

It's partly because the roster is loaded, and with the addition of Decelise Champion a year early, it's even more crowded. Oh, and if you missed that news, it's a big one. Read that story here.

Sheffield isn't generally worried about the crowded roster and instead says he loves it. He calms any Wisconsin fan who is worried about how it will all work out, that it will "figure itself out." There's a worry that players will transfer if they don't get significant playing time.

Where Nick Boyd is falling in the latest NBA Mock Drafts

Tomorrow is the start of the NBA Draft, as it all unfolds on June 23 and June 24. Nick Boyd is considered a fringe NBA Draft prospect. He's had some projections for him to land late in the second round and other mock drafts that say he is missing it entirely.

The final verdict will be determined by the NBA teams who are picking, but it's not looking overly promising for Boyd to be drafted. However, everyone considers him to be a strong two-way player and a G-League point guard in year one. That's even if he's drafted late in the second round.
