New wide receivers coach Jordan Reid has been on the job for a few months but has already left an impression in the wide receivers room. There seems to be a lot of energy around the new scheme and roles for receivers in new offensive coordinator Jeff Grime's offense. Jordan Reid also wastes no time taking big swings in the recruiting portal.
The new name that popped up today is 2027 Lawrence Britt out of Memphis, Tennessee. According to 24/7 Sports, Britt is listed as the 21st-best player in the 2027 class and the third-best wide receiver. Yet, Britt posted on his social media feed that he received an offer from Matt Mitchell (special teams coordinator and OLB coach) but also shouted out Jordan Reid.
Lawrence Britt the No. 3 WR in 2027 has received an offer from Wisconsin
The fascinating part about those two coaches being mentioned is that Britt also plays linebacker in high school. Wisconsin may be working on an angle that allows Britt to consider both options at the next level. This strategy is sometimes used for players who aren't ready to give up one side of the ball for the next level. It will be interesting to see how Wisconsin views him.
Britt is clearly projected as a wide receiver at the college level, as he's one of the best in the nation at that position for 2027. 24/7 Sports rates him as a 4-star player, as they have yet to give out any 5-stars to the class of 2027. There is a chance he will make a big jump in his junior football season.
The 2027 recruiting is really just opening up, as those players have only played two years of high school football at most. The class will be slowly developed this fall as these players get to play in their junior year of high school.
