The Wisconsin Badgers have hired a new General Manager for football, according to a report by Pete Thamel. The Badgers were in the market for a new GM after Marcus Sedberry stepped into the interim athletic director position. As the GM isn't a position they can leave vacant for long, Wisconsin jumped quickly to replace Sedberry with an NFL personnel executive named Morocco Brown (more about Brown below).
Luke Fickell is desperate for improvement in football, as the product has been subpar ever since he came. The latest excuse has been more about the backend rather than the coaching. Former athletic director Chris McIntosh claimed that Wisconsin just needed to invest more in the program. And it's clear that the back-end processes needed improvement.

Brown has been in NFL personnel departments for more than 25 years and, most recently, has been with the Indianapolis Colts for eight seasons. He has an ongoing relationship with Colts GM Chris Ballard, who is on the search committee for Wisconsin's new athletic director.
Brown served the Colts as the director of college scouting for six seasons and two as the chief personnel executive. As Thamel reported above, he's also been part of the Browns, Commanders, and Bears. He's served in both scouting, personnel, and executive roles. This will serve the Wisconsin Badgers in a unique way.
As GM is a new position in college football, there's a strong desire to have experience in a field where no one has it. This is pushing colleges to grab players from the NFL who know what it looks like to sign contracts, make personnel decisions for the roster, and set up scouting departments both for recruits and transfers.
Wisconsin is playing catch-up when it comes to the business side of the sport. It's part of what has created the mess that Luke Fickell finds himself in. This move is not only necessary but is exactly what Fickell needs to find a way forward in the future.
