3. OCTOBER 10th at NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

Remember the last time these two teams played? If you don’t, let me refresh your memory.

It was a snowy November night in Madison. Two Big Ten powerhouse teams were going at it to see who would have the edge in the West division. It also pitted two great running backs in Melvin Gordon and Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah. The Badgers showed up and literally ran the Cornhuskers out of the state of Wisconsin and back to Nebraska. Gordon would end up with what was then the single-game rushing record of 408 yards and four touchdowns. The Badgers would rack up an impressive 627 yards on their way to a 59-24 blowout over Nebraska.

This win would also vault Wisconsin to the top of the Big Ten West division and would be one of the reason’s why the Badgers would wind up in the conference championship.

But this year’s game will feature both teams with new head coaches. Paul Chryst returns to the Big Ten to lead the Badgers and Mike Riley, who was fired from Oregon State, will get a real good taste of what Big Ten football is all about. It will also feature different running backs as both Gordon and Abdullah will be in the NFL come next fall.

Each time these two get together it brings some more added excitement to the fans and to the conference. Nebraska is a storied football program that is always in the hunt for a conference championship. Same with Wisconsin, who has played in three of the four conference championships winning two of them. These two are slowly starting to build a rivalry in which fans can really enjoy watching.
