The big day has arrived. That's right, the Wisconsin Badgers are set to host No. 1 Oregon for easily the biggest game of the year in Madison. The Ducks are the top team in the country and rightfully so, as Dan Lanning and Co. are having an unreal year.
The same can't be said for the 5-4 Badgers, as things have been quite inconsistent for Luke Fickell and his staff. On any given Saturday, however, anything can happen. Is an upset of epic proportions on the way at Camp Randall? Here are our four bold predictions for the action:
4. Tawee Walker rushes for 120 yards and a touchdown
We'll have more on quarterback Braedyn Locke below, but running back Tawee Walker is surely going to be featured quite a bit in this one. Unfortunately, Walker hasn't played well over the past two games. The offensive line hasn't done him any favors. However, look for him to get fed the ball early and often vs. Oregon. We think it will result in at least 120 rushing yards and a first-half touchdown.
3. Bradeyn Locke doesn't turn the ball over
In order for the Badgers to have a shot in this game, Locke is going to have to be at his best. At a minimum, Locke needs to take care of the dang football. He has thrown an interception in six straight games. This includes two picks vs. Iowa and a pick-six in the loss to Penn State.
His rough play still has plenty of people calling for him to get benched. That's not going to happen against the Ducks. Locke is still the starter for this team. Don't look for him to throw for 300 yards or anything, but we do believe he'll play turnover-free football vs. Oregon.
2. Dillion Gabriel will be kept under 225 passing yards
With how great Oregon has been looking this year, it only makes sense that QB Dillion Gabriel has been superb throwing the ball all over the field. On the season, the talented left-handed quarterback has thrown for 2,848 yards, 22 touchdowns and only five interceptions.
There's no question the Wisconsin defense is going to have its hands full trying to slow down Gabriel and the aerial attack. On the year, Gabriel has only thrown for less than 200 yards once. His two lowest totals are 243 yards vs. Boise State and 183 yards vs. Maryland. Against Wisconsin, he will be held to 218 yards.
1. Wisconsin will keep things close but lose on a late touchdown
Virtually no one is giving Wisconsin a shot to take down Oregon. The players know about this and they're using it as motivation. We think the Badgers are going to keep this game a lot more interesting than people think. However, we also have a feeling Oregon is going to post a 28-21 win, with a late Gabriel TD ending the night in heartbreak for Wisconsin.
