In the final Utah Jazz Summer League game, Steven Crowl finally got a chance to play. It also turned out to be a very forgettable night for his fellow former Badger John Tonje. While Steven Crowl got to play meaningful minutes to showcase his NBA ability, Tonje had maybe one of his coldest shooting nights ever. A real good news, bad news situation for Wisconsin fans watching the Jazz.
Steven Crowl has yet to play in any game for the Utah Jazz this summer, either in the Salt Lake series of the summer league or in the Las Vegas games. However, on the final night, the Jazz decided they wanted to see what Crowl could do. While he didn't explode onto the scene, he certainly held his own.
Former Badgers Steven Crowl and John Tonje played in the same NBA Summer League game for the Utah Jazz
Crowl played for 14 minutes, going 1-2 shooting from the floor and 0-1 from three. He finished with two points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. It may not have been enough to earn him a spot on an NBA contract, even at the G-League level, but it definitely proved that he isn't far off. He can hold his own with other young NBA players vying to make their way into the league.
Tonje, on the other hand, had a frustrating night shooting. He went 1-9 from the field and 0-6 from three, scoring only four points (making two free throws). Tonje was able to contribute in other ways with six rebounds and two assists. To make the night worse, and a great example of how he was trying to force things, he also had six turnovers.
It was a forgettable night for Tonje after having a breakout night in his first time in the NBA Summer League. It looked like the Jazz were planning to give him the Ace Bailey treatment and hold him out after he missed a game in between these two, but he was back out there agains the Bulls, and he may have wished he actually wasn't. Shake that one off and go out and prove it again the next opportunity.
