Wisconsin just added another 4-star recruit in the class of 2027, and yet it was a recruit they already had in the fold. 24/7 Sports updated their rankings today, and defensive lineman David Hill jumped from a 3-star recruit to a 4-star player and became the latest 4-star in the already impressive recruiting class for Luke Fickell.
Hill was rated an 87 on 24/7 Sports, which is already fairly close to a 4-star (90 or higher) but not quite there. On3 and ESPN both agreed on a 3-star rating for Hill; however, his junior season and what he's showcased in camp have pushed him up in 24/7 Sports' rankings. He's now rated a 90 (on the dot).

Wisconsin commit David Hill is now a 4-star recruit and his hard work has paid off

Part of what makes Hill special is that he's already built like a college defensive lineman. He's 6'3 and 300 pounds; this size and weight are basically exactly what Fickell looks for in an interior defensive lineman. This size and strength will only grow in the college game and weight room, and yet, because he's able to be a grown man in high school, he can get the leverage and point of attack on many of the smaller players in front of him.
Hill's performance this season not only led to 19 offers from all sorts of big-time programs like California, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Nebraska, and Vanderbilt. It also led to an invitation to the Military Appreciation Bowl for top high school recruits.
As mentioned above, Hill fits what Fickell wants to see on the offensive line perfectly. Hill is a hole clogger and plays with a ton of lower-body strength. He's also a wrestler at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, and that experience helps him in the trenches.
So not only is Wisconsin getting a top interior defensive lineman in the 2027 class, but they added another 4-star without even adding a new player. This is now the sixth 4-star in the class, and that jump for Hill propelled the Badgers all the way up to No. 12 in the nation for the 2027 recruiting class. It's the highest class ranking that Wisconsin has ever had at this point in the recruiting season (during the ranking era).
Luke Fickell is doing something special with this class, and the difference is startling. In years past, Fickell wasn't landing players like Hill, whether they were listed as a 3-star or a 4-star. These ready-to-go college players may need to gain some experience, but can find a role fairly quickly. Fickell has had to grasp and claw to get things going, and it simply hasn't worked.
The hope and dream and prayer is that this season, with the incoming impressive transfer portal class, can get things started, and then the 2027 recruiting class (and beyond) will keep the momentum going. Get Badger football back to where it belongs, the top of the Big Ten.
