Wisconsin has a lot of sports news happening lately, and it's hard to keep up with it all. The biggest news of the week actually comes from Kelly Sheffield and the volleyball team. Though other things are happening, let's get a couple of links in each category of volleyball, football, and basketball.
Wisconsin volleyball adds best player from 2027 recruiting class
Sheffield went into the international waters and found one of the top players in the whole world, Decelise Champion. She was played for the adult Puerto Rico international team as a 14-year-old. She's 6'4 and currently plays professionally in Italy. She's a star, and Wisconsin was able to get her to commit over Nebraska.
It helps that she was the priority and only recruit that Sheffield was looking for in 2027. With 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes full and not many seniors or juniors on the roster, this may be the only player recruited in 2027.
The other news is about how star setter Charlie Fuerbringer and the timetable for her injury are not ideal. It may even cost her the rest of the season. Read that article here.
Big games coming for the Badgers tonight and Sunday.
Hunter Simmons struggled so bad against Iowa, he can't be the answer
This isn't really news, but more opinion. Simmons struggled so badly against Iowa. His QBR stat is so terrible that it was almost as bad as just throwing the ball into the ground over and over again. Read all about it here.
There's also some news about the attendance troubles. The announced attendance vs. the actual scanned attendance is something to keep track of. Either way, attendance is down in both categories, and maybe that's good news.
Greg Gard and his staff were really surprised by the readiness of true freshman Will Garlock
The most exciting news out of Wisconsin basketball was what Greg Gard had to say about true freshman Will Garlock. He has blown away the staff, and he seems ready. He doesn't know how much that will translate immediately until he's up against real opponents, but there's excitement building.
The depth behind Nolan Winter and Austin Rapp is a big question mark, and Garlock's readiness may end up helping this.
Red-White Scrimmage is this Sunday and basketball season is basically upon us.
