The 2014 college football season is winding down, and Badger of Honor is bidding farewell to the Wisconsin football players who will leave the team following the Outback Bowl on January 1, 2015.

Up next in our countdown is No. 5, offensive lineman Kyle Costigan.

Costigan has played 41 games for Wisconsin after redshirting in 2010, and has emerged as one of the team’s best linemen this season.

He’s started the last 25 games at right guard for the Badgers – including all 13 this season – and has contributed to one of the top-ranked running offenses – which averages more than 300 yards per game.

His performance this season earned him a first team spot on the Big Ten All-Conference team, and he earned the Wisconsin Badger Power team award, as well.

He’s been a rock on the offensive line for Wisconsin, and will likely find himself on an NFL roster come spring.

And, Costigan has found all of this success while dealing with a very serious off-the-field issue: his mother is fighting kidney cancer.

Sandy Costigan was diagnosed with kidney cancer before the season, and Costigan has the added weight of his mother’s disease on his shoulders at all times.

Costigan was able to share a special moment with his mom before the final home game of the season, when his siblings had their mom waiting on FaceTime as they greeted Costigan on the field.

Costigan’s tenacity to fight through adversity will be missed in 2015.

Stay tuned to Badger of Honor as we continue our countdown of the Top 10 Badgers We’ll Miss. Up next, number 4, Derek Landisch.
