Wisconsin's newest commit, in-state offensive lineman Jack Tabbert, was unranked just hours ago. After a big high school season and summer circuit, he is now a 3-star prospect, and not just any 3-star prospect; he jumped all the way to an 87 rating on 24/7 Sports. That makes him a top-10 player in the state of Wisconsin, right up there with Isaac Miller and even ahead of Dustin Roach.
It's a big jump, but it's well-deserved. Not simply because he finally earned a Wisconsin offer, and instantly committed. He's really started to make some noise lately in the summer camp circuit, proving he's strong, plays with leverage, and has an excellent motor.
There's some real vital Wisconsin news in this beyond the fact that he's a newly committed player. Two newsy things that matter below.

OL Jack Tabbert has proven the doubters wrong with a 3-star ranking after committing to Wisconsin

Tabbert had 10 offers before finally securing his first Power-4 offer in Wisconsin. It was the coveted one, the only one he really wanted, and it made his decision to flip from North Dakota State to Wisconsin extremely easy. There wasn't much hesitation, but there also wasn't much for Wisconsin offensive line coach Eric Mateos either. After seeing Tabbert last week in a "big man" camp, he was excited to try to get him to flip.
The reason this new rating is important for Wisconsin is that he's another top in-state player in the class. There are only 15 players ranked on 24/7 Sports for the 2027 class in the state of Wisconsin. Of those 15, 10 of them have committed to play the Badgers, and all 10 of those players are in the top-13 in the state.
Wisconsin has the top four players in the state and then No. 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13. That's an impressive haul, so adding Tabbert into that top-10 for in-state players is a huge talking point for the Wisconsin recruiting program. Something they can utilize going forward in the state. Seven of the top 10 players are Badgers for 2027.
The second reason this new rating bump is important for Wisconsin is that the Badgers basically discovered his jump in development. He was pretty unheard of and obviously unranked, and while other non-Power-4 programs had looks in at him, the Badgers were the first to really take notice. Once they took notice, it wasn't long before the flip happened.

Now the goal will be development and seeing these in-state linemen (and out-of-state linemen) return Wisconsin to the glory days of having the best offensive line in the nation, basically year after year.
Not just having the best lines but also producing the majority of those lines from in-state players. This class now has five offensive linemen in the fold from Wisconsin. This is the entirety of the offensive linemen in the class. If there's a sign that Wisconsin may be on its way back, it's this. Big boys, staying home, developing into top college linemen, and then dominating in the NFL after graduation.
